CHAPTER FIFTEEN

“WE FOUND HER identity,” Needham’s email read. “The name of the last victim is Jennifer Seddon. She was a librarian at the public library. During the two weeks before we found the body, Evers’s car was recorded five times in the vicinity of the library, each time during office hours. On the evening a day before our estimated time of death she was at a dinner party with a few girlfriends. Evers’s car was in the car park of the same restaurant. The management does not remember him, but he must have been there too.

“We still have no idea what is happening, how the victims are being selected and if they have any connection to the people in the gathering you attended, but this much is clear: YOU CANNOT GO ANYWHERE ALONE WITH THIS MAN AGAIN.”

After Beloved had read the email, she read again the part of Needham’s message that was in capitals, and then she read it again. Finally, she answered, “Perhaps one of your agents can follow me next time.”

His reply was almost immediate. “No, Beloved, this is too dangerous. We are reconsidering our strategy. First of all, we are going to increase our surveillance. We won’t be letting him pick up anyone.”

So far you surveillance has not been all that successful, Agent Needham, she thought.
