Chapter Eight
Glaring at Larnika as the music played, I clenched my fists. As soon as he had revealed that I had a sister, the wedding music had begun and the ceremony was in full swing. We had rushed to see Harry and Anlee exchange vows before her father had declared that Harry was welcomed as a full Unseelie merman.
âWe have to leave,â Sarsia interrupted my absent minded nodding as I listened to Anlee's mother gushing over the bride.
Excusing myself, I joined the others as they gathered near Anlee and Harry. The mermaid's arms were thrashing the water around her as she spoke in a hushed voice.
Larnika's face was pinched as he held up a hand to silence her. âWe have to leave,â he repeated Sarsia's urgent declaration.
Taking my arm, Anlee tugged. âMy brother is gathering his friends. He doesn't like having you down here. He can feel that you're from the Seelie Court.â
Without waiting for her to go on, I grasped her elbow. âPlease, take us to the other side of the sea.â
Nodding, she smiled at me, tears coming into her eyes. The blonde mass of her hair moved behind her as she thrust forward, throwing her arms around me. Harry gave me a big smile, the corners of his lips almost meeting his eyes.
âThank you!â Anlee's whisper slipped under my skin, making me warm from the inside out.
Their happiness was evident in the way they glanced at one another, the intensity of their love shining from their eyes. Larnika and Sarsia had been sharing similar gazes. Love was certainly in the air, but so was danger. We didn't have time to celebrate, especially if the merfolk were on their way.
âLet's go,â Anlee said, taking Harry's arm. âTime for you to learn how to swim.â
Thrusting away from us, she flipped her fin so quickly, she propelled away from the village faster than a horse could gallop. A twinge gripped my heart as I thought of the horses we had left behind. They couldn't join us in Dragonscale, but Harry and Anlee had promised to look after them for us until we returned.
A horn sounded behind us, the warning causing the merfolk to flee the celebrations. Daniel and Trenton appeared by my side, waiting for me to make my move. Nodding, I copied Anlee's motion and pushed myself forward with my fin. Water flowed around me, stroking the skin of my arms as I kept them by my side. The bright hue of the sun shining through the water lit the way as the wide ocean opened and we left the village behind.
âIt was certainly time to leave,â Trenton called. âThat brother was a true Unseelie merman.â
âLarnika.â Looking over my shoulder, I caught sight of him holding Sarsia's hand, helping her to keep up with us.
When he heard my call, he came to join me, his face pinched. âYou want to know about the oracle.â
My breath started to feel ragged as we swum. Swimming and talking was exhausting. Anlee and Harry
