Mythia arrived at the landing of the castle. Dropping down, she forced her dragon to recede. She knelt on all fours and paused to get herself together.

How dare Xomor invade her territory. If it was war he wanted, then she would gladly meet him head-on. Standing, she conjured clothing to cover her body.

She stalked toward the entry of the castle. She needed to see her mate and ensure she was fine. Mythia had entrusted Sascha to take care of Kelsey while she was away.

Her mate needed to have absolute trust in her, and the only way she would believe that Mythia did not steal her family heirloom would be for her to witness it herself.

She arrived at the door, flung it open, and stepped inside, taking the stairs down into the building. She sensed Kelsey’s location.

The lingering trails of dark magic were in the air. Raven must have been successful in carrying out Mythia’s request.

Closing her eyes, she teleported outside of the sunroom and inhaled deeply, trying to calm her animal down. Walking in, still charged from her flight and fight with Xomor, would scar Kelsey.

Mythia wanted to ensure that her mate had all her questions answered.

Exhaling, she entered the room.

Kelsey sat on the loveseat placed in front of the large window that overlooked the garden. Her feet were tucked underneath her as stared outside, looking deep in thought.

Sascha and Raven’s conversation ceased when she walked across the room. She gave them a nod and headed straight to her mate.

Kelsey didn’t hear her when she stopped and knelt down next to her. Mythia’s beast grew worried.

“Kelsey, my love.” Mythia rested her hand on Kelsey’s knee. It was as if she were in a trance. Mythia looked over to Sascha and Raven for an answer, but they just shrugged. Sighing, she turned back to Kelsey. “Are you all right?”

Kelsey blinked and turned to her.

“Mythia,” she breathed. Her gaze roamed over Mythia’s body before returning to meet her eyes. “You’re okay.”

“Don’t worry about me. I can take care of myself.” Mythia took Kelsey’s hand and gently stroked the back of it with her thumb.

“I saw everything.” Kelsey turned away from Mythia, and her dragon didn’t like it one bit. She held back a snarl, trying to push her back. “You were friends with Paxton Rose, my ancestor, who helped settle this town.”

“He was a good friend of mine,” Mythia confirmed.

“You won the medallion from him in a card game, so I guess I was in the wrong. Tales had been passed down in my family that it was stolen.” Pulling her hand back, she reached up and tucked her thick hair behind her ear.

“You don’t have to apologize for anything, mate. If I had thought something was stolen from me, I wouldn’t rest until I retrieved it.”

“There was a man in the saloon. You fought him that night…” Kelsey stopped and fiddled with her hands. Mythia waited patiently for her to continue. She remembered the night she’d won the medallion as if it were yesterday.
