Adrianna

She was on her feet in an instant. Catching Avery, she clasped a hand over the spurting wound at her throat.

Lori, the older Spellcaster in Adrianna’s care, rushed to her side. “Help her,” she instructed, then got to her feet.

Just in time to see Levaroth lap at the blood glistened on Emma’s lips. His expression shuttered before he lifted his head. Flames of destruction and murder danced in his eyes.

Adrianna’s hands raised, ready for whatever was about to happen. She didn’t recognize the glee on her best friend’s face. The darkness of night that glittered in her eyes; each star winking out as she gave herself over to the bloodlust.

“If I need to put you both in a cage, I will,” she warned.

Emma’s grin turned seductive. “That won’t be necessary.” Her hand wrapped around Levaroth’s, and before Adrianna could blast them with magic, they were gone.

Her heart hammered so loud in her ears, she almost didn’t hear the wheezing rasp from Avery, the poor human girl who had her throat bit into. Adrianna turned to watch Lori heal the raw, bloody bite marks, yet even once the skin stitched closed, she couldn’t take her eyes away from the spot on her throat still stained with crimson.

Whatever had just snapped in her best friend, and in Levaroth was something she feared couldn’t be contained by a spell or a cage.

Her eyes widened and she fled the room, shouting an order to Lori to ward the room. There were still almost twenty girls down in the kitchens. Mortals who would be torn apart by the two demons on a rampage if she didn’t hurry.

She whipped through the halls, hoping to make it in time. Tripping over the stairs several times in her haste, she caught herself on the walls, and thankfully not with her face. Each step felt like a heartbeat about to be extinguished. Distant shrieks had her own heart thrashing against her ribcage.

Finally, she reached the kitchens, tearing into the main one and stopping short at the sound of a scream.

Emma clutched one of the servants to her chest, face concealed as she sucked at the girl’s neck. Levaroth brushed her hair aside, a short, squirming blonde secured at his side. He met Adrianna’s gaze, and grinned, showing off a mouthful of fangs.

With the speed of a cobra, he struck, holding the girl as still as possible while he drank her blood.

“What in the ever-loving fuck is going on?” Adrianna demanded. Magic curled in her palms, lifting into swirling orbs of seafoam green. They crackled and popped with raw power, drawing Emma’s attention enough to pull her teeth out of the servant’s neck.

“I’ve finally let go of the good-girl persona,” she said with a smile that was coated in red.

Adrianna’s stomach roiled. “This isn’t you.” The words came out in a hoarse whisper—barely audible over the sound of her swirling magic.

Levaroth slurped noisily, and the woman in his hold sagged, her skin a sickly grey.

“You’re killing her!” Adrianna screamed, and her power shot out, ricocheting through the room.
