Three weeks later, shearing was over, the sheep returned to the newly fenced paddocks, and the woolshed floor stacked high with pressed bales of fine merino wool. They had come through their first shearing, Ben had confirmed the clip was good, and Grace was relieved that Pete had mostly kept his cool and not abused anyone. Well, no more than was usual, anyway.

Since Tom’s mention of his divorce, Grace had been intrigued, bursting to ask him more. I wonder what sort of woman she was. How come it didn’t work out between them?

Grace waited to see if he would open up and tell her about his ex-wife. However, they didn’t get another chance to be alone and no more was said. She didn’t dare cross the boundaries and upset Pete. Once again, her heart was heavy as she waved the Cessna away into the sparkling blue winter skies over Tullagulla.
