A soft knock comes from my bedroom door, as I’m laid out on my bed, books covering the blankets.

“Yeah?” I shout, not looking up from my homework.

“Indiana, dinner is ready.” Sloane says through the door. Her heels echo down the hall, the faint sounds of her doing the same on Tinsley and Presley’s door.

Closing my books, I slide off of my bed, not bothering to change out of my leggings and baggy band T-shirt, and head downstairs to the dining room. Walking in, I’m surprised to see Keaton sitting in his seat at the head of the table, still dressed in his navy blue business shirt and slacks. I can’t actually remember the last time I saw him. He’s been working more than usual lately.

Tinsley and Presley are already seated on the far side of the table, both on their phones, not glancing up as I sit down in my chair, across from them. Lesley rushes in a moment later, her hands full with plates of food, Sloane hot on her heels.

A large plate of penne pasta, covered in a delicious looking red sauce, is placed in front of me and I can’t resist dropping my head slightly, inhaling the intoxicating scent. It smells absolutely amazing.

“Carbs. Seriously?” Tinsley’s unimpressed voice penetrates my food haze as I pick up my fork, not bothering to wait for anyone else before diving into my bowl of food.

“I need the carbohydrates for tomorrow’s game,” Presley answers, explaining the menu choice for tonight. He brings a forkful of pasta to his mouth, shoveling the food in and not caring about the sauce splattering around his mouth.

“Just because you need them, why do the rest of us have to suffer?” Tinsley whines in a high-pitched tone. Her voice is just annoying.

“Would you like me to prepare you a salad, Tinsley?” Lesley offers with a friendly smile, walking back into the room.

“Do you even need to ask? I can’t eat this if I expect to fit into my dress for Spring Formal,” Tinsley responds high handedly, pushing the bowl away in disgust.

My gaze bounces between Sloane and Keaton, surprised they aren’t calling Tinsley out on her bullshit. Keaton is nose deep in his tablet, jaw grinding and brows permanently creased. Sloane has her happy housewife mask in place, not a crack in sight. “Oh yes! I forgot Spring Formal is coming up,” Sloane pipes in. “Should I assume Jameson is taking you?” A glimmer of disapproval passes over her face, but is gone quicker than I can do a double take. What was that? Does Sloane not like Jameson?

“Of course, Mother,” Tinsley spits venomously. “Who else would he be taking?” She rolls her eyes.

“Watch your tone with me, Tinsley. You’re still on thin ice after the party you and your brother threw, trashing our home.”

“Presley, what about you? Are you going to the Formal?” Sloane asks, moving on from Tinsley’s petulant tirade.

“Have you asked anyone yet? A mother needs to know these things, you know? I have
