Chapter 20

NO ONE SPOKE FOR A MOMENT as the dragon landed, settled into a comfortable position and released the pack she had been carrying. Auni landed on the nearby fence post and silently watched everything unfold.

“So nice to see everyone again!” Shama said with his signature smile as he came into view. “Akronius, everyone else, this is Syphra. She is…”

“Beautiful.” Akronius interrupted him.

‘And you are wise.’ Syphra replied, sounding pleased.

“Awe, it is then!” Shama chuckled. “Yes, well. We have quite a bit to speak about,” he said, gathering his pack and heading for the cottage door. “Good to see you again Kaison! Alric, I can tell you’re eating too much. Elainea, we did not mean to steal the fire from you.” He chuckled at his own joke. “Syphra wanted to test her death spray and he provided the perfect opportunity.”

“Death spray?” Akronius stood, still staring in awe at Syphra, “I thought dragons sprayed fire…”

‘We will have the time to get acquainted, now you must listen to what Shama has to say.’ Syphra said, bending her head closer to Akronius. He slowly reached out to touch her forehead and it was as if his arm locked onto her. Searing heat coursed through him followed by freezing cold, finally the feeling settled somewhere in the middle and he was released from whatever spell had trapped him.

‘We are bonded.’ Syphra said with a sigh. ‘It has been ages since I have felt that part of me ignited. I have missed it.’

She relaxed in the grass and watched Akronius open his eyes in wonder.

“It’s amazing! You’re amazing!” Akronius looked around and saw everything as if he had been blind before now. Colors were brighter, he could see clear across the river and into the woods. He could smell everything! It seemed all his senses had heightened and were now in tune with hers. Turning back to her, he was speechless. Syphra nodded and gestured with her large head for him to go inside. They would have time together after Shama spoke to them all.

“Your eyes…” Alric said looking closely at Akronius as he entered the home.

“What about them?” Akronius asked, touching his own face.

“Yes, yes. They have a blue ring around them now. You are bonded to Syphra and have taken on some of her attributes.” Shama said absentmindedly. “That is to be expected. Now on to more important matters, well, more pressing matters anyway.”

Akronius settled, leaning against one of the walls as the table could only seat four. Naia walked into the room with a large wolf just behind her and stood at Akronius’ side.

‘This is Nguvu, he is the leader of my pack and...my brother.’

Akronius repeated what she said and looked at the larger male with fascination, he spoke out loud for the benefit of those present. “Hello Nguvu, I am Akronius, that is Alric, Elainea, Shama and…”

‘Kaison, yes we know who he is.’ Nguvu greeted Kaison with a slight lowering of his head, ‘I am glad to meet here with you all.
