The last thing Sean wanted to do was let Jade out of her sight. But it was wrong of her to treat Jade like a normal assignment. She was an individual and had a right to do whatever she wanted if she took ordinary precautions. This was civilian work, and Jade was her boss. It was her call. She knew it was childish to think Jade would put herself in danger, but she disliked giving up control more than anything else when she was with the agency, unless she was forced to. This reminded her of those times, and she didn’t like it one bit.

With Jade off doing who knew what with a woman Sean had never met, she was left to think the worse and hope for the best. She’d asked for details, but Jade had been decidedly, frustratingly vague, and Sean had been forced to drop it.

After Jade had gone, she admitted the main reason she didn’t want Jade to go was because she didn’t want her in the arms of another woman. She couldn’t very well tell Jade how she felt. Not when she didn’t have a clue Sean was falling for her and there was no safety net to stop her. Looking around the empty apartment, she had all she could do to sit still. Maybe she should contact Kyle and have her own sexual interlude. No. What if Jade needed her? What if she couldn’t get to her in time because she was across town? Or she didn’t hear the buzz of her cell because her head was buried between some woman’s legs? Foolish as it sounded, she’d be better off staying where she was. Even if she didn’t sleep, she’d be less on edge if she was within striking distance, with whatever reinforcements she might need. She slumped onto the couch and put her head in her hands. Sure. In case Jade needs me. That’s the only reason. Thankfully, it was only for a night.
