Chapter Seven

The mid-morning sun felt good on my back out in the middle of nowhere. Not too far, just in a place there were no humans around. I still had cell service and there was a source of electricity nearby which I needed. I’d been practicing again. As I’d mentioned before, the three major things I’d learned from Kas’s sorcerous knowledge and diamond was using the earth realm to link me to two places at once, the ability of transmutation, and the third had been an adaptation of the trick I’d already known. How to channel and modify electricity so it acted as a taser and cleared at least a few seconds of memory, with her knowledge I could at least stun and take down a vampire or shifter without killing as well.

There had been tons of other knowledge too, a lot of it I’d known, but there were a lot of small tricks I hadn’t. I’d been working on one such that morning. Let’s just say the rail gun had been a proven concept long before humanity had put it in science fiction. When using magic, I could turn any rock, metal, or stone into a projectile, but it was limited in guidance to three hundred and fifty feet, and I’d have to aim to hit anything past that.

I supposed that was true of the new knowledge as well, but it was much easier to aim. It also had the advantage of being a non-magical end result, which is why I was trying it out. The long tube of magic drawing from the electrical source and modifying it, turned into an EM field with various manipulations. At that point, I just needed to grab a rock off the ground, transmute it to metal, and shape it to be perfectly aerodynamic.

My diamond was two miles away, which I was using to aim at a steel drum I’d set up. That was the hard part. Aiming I mean.

I modified my shield to suppress sound. The first time I’d tried it I hadn’t done that, and I’d regretted it and been deafened for several minutes. Then I dropped the projectile in the bottom of the tube.

Boom!

Instant supersonic round. I sighed, when the round hit the ground around twenty feet from the metal drum I’d set up. It was honestly a lot of bother, but it’d be worth it if I could figure it out. If the spirit sorcerers came after me again once I got the charm from Katy, then I could pop up two miles away from them. They’d never even feel it coming, if there was no magic on it. I assumed, or hoped, that when they pulled their aura back it was less than two miles.

Sure, they’d feel the diamond too, but I planned to use Katy’s spell for aiming when the time actually came, and that tracking spell would be far more subtle.

Of course, if they did get through my shield and I couldn’t fight them off, they’d see my plans to kill them, and would probably end my life.
