Chapter Nineteen

The bullets traveled dangerously close to his lieutenant’s chest before they exploded in thin air. Drake tried to convince himself that Murphy could take the hit but the thought that the bullets were meant for Sienna set fire to his insides.

Earlier, at the pub, the strike of lightning alerted him. He cut the next round of ale short, but would have never imagined that Evie held his wife at gun point.

“You ridiculous jealous bitch!” Murphy’s eyes grew wide before he lunged at Evie.

Not nearly fast enough to stop him, Drake grappled with the seven foot tall man. Percy and Barker jumped into the fray, but regardless of their strength they couldn’t pry his big paws from her neck.

“Come on, Murphy, let go,” he demanded while Evie’s face turned beet red. No sound escaped her mouth; not even a chortle. The beast side had taken over and none of them were strong enough to stop him.

With very few options left, he caught Percy’s eye and nodded. The vampire opened his mouth wide and sunk his fangs into Murphy’s arm. The rest of them let go as the pair spun around and around until Percy’s venom finally took hold. His lieutenant eventually dropped to his knees a few seconds before his face hit the floor.

“What the hell was that?” he asked.

“They’re under a spell,” Sienna told him while she coached Barker’s wife to drink the wine. The tiny woman sipped from the glass she held to her mouth.

“Maddie,” she hissed at her best friend, while everyone watched Evie hack and cough near the fireplace.

“Come on, Sin, you know she deserves this.” After some time, she finally seemed to relent under the scrutiny of Sienna’s stare. She snatched the second glass of wine off the end table and made her way to the spot where Murphy had dropped her.

“If you don’t drink this,” the kitty threatened the school teacher, “I will be forced to ram it down your throat.” With absolutely no finesse, she grabbed the schoolmarm’s face, forcing her mouth open. A weak struggle occurred before Evie gave up, most likely realizing she was no match for Maddie.

“Who would put a spell on them?” Barker asked in almost a low whine while Sienna tended to his ill wife.

“Here’s a better question…did the spell caster bedazzle them on or off the Devilin property?” Percy posed to all of them.

In a matter of seconds, Alex appeared to be fast asleep, but Drake knew better. She was in a magical coma until she could heal.

“Barker, you will need to get your wife home to rest,” Sienna instructed.

“What do we do about those two?” Maddie wiggled her fingers toward the husband and wife who nearly killed each other.

“Barker, may Evie stay at your house until she gets her bearings back?” His wife kindly asked of his lieutenant. He could tell Barker wanted no part in that plan, but seemed unable to turn the beauty down. He murmured his agreement before he scooped up Alex.

“I’ll get the sour one,” Percy said.
