“Here. This is the camera I bought yesterday,” Shara handed the Canon to Bryan. “I want you to take a picture of me standing by my car. It’s the first brand new car I’ve ever had, and I want some pictures.”

Shara stood beside the convertible Mustang, one hand resting on the driver’s side door. The top was down and they had just washed and waxed the vehicle. She was thinking of the letter she would write to her parents when she mailed the picture:

Dear Mom and Dad,

Here’s a picture of me and the car I always wanted, a brand new 1987 convertible Mustang. It’s loaded with everything, and I’ll bet it can outrun a Corvette. It’s sure better than that old Laser you made me buy instead of a Mustang.

By the way, I’m fine. I’m sorry I left like I did, but under the circumstances it was the only thing to do. The past few months have been strange. I’ve grown up more than you would ever have let me do at home.
