Katherine Piers had to admit that she never performed an exorcism on a demon from Hell before. That wasn’t something that she ever thought she would be in the position to do. Even the most outlandish parts about being a part of the Knights Templar did not exactly compare to becoming an exorcist, although it remained to be seen how good of one she would actually be.

There was a demon in front of her, and she just hoped that she would be able to get rid of it. She took a long, calming breath, trying to open up the channels of her mind to think back and remember the things that Father Guidry taught her. It was difficult since they had to rush and cram so many things in there at once.

She started to recite what she remembered, doing her best to speak Latin properly and correctly. She was thankful that she used to study the dead language. That made things a little bit easier for her in the heat of the moment. She focused on every word and tried to let it flow out as naturally as she possibly could. She tried to find a rhythm, one that would be enough to work. She remembered the advice that Father Guidry had given her. She focused on her belief in God, in her belief that there was something purely good out there in the world, something that could counteract the demons and all of their endless evil. That was what she filled her thoughts with, what she put behind every word that she spoke, wanting to shower that demon with righteous, holy goodness that would force him to flee and leave that man behind.

The demon writhed around on the floor like he was being physically tormented by the words alone. He twisted and snarled like a wounded animal, some feral beast that she needed to protect the world from. The possessed man started to cough, and spurts of fire came out until he suddenly exhaled a line of flames that drifted into the air and moved toward the box. Thaddeus was at the ready, crouched beside the containment box and ready to open it once the fire of the demon’s essence got close. It poured into the box, and Thaddeus shut it closed with a smile, beaming at her.

“You did it!”

Katherine almost couldn’t believe what just happened, but it made her unspeakably happy.

“I did.… I did, didn’t I? I just performed an exorcism.”

“You did,” Thad chuckled. “And you did a damn good job of one too!”

It was hard to fathom that she had just exorcised a demon out of a human body. That wasn’t something that she ever thought that she would be doing, that she ever could have seen herself doing. Even in the midst of all of her studies and trials to become a Templar knight, she never thought that the path would lead her to a face-to-face confrontation with an actual demon, and she never would have thought that she would perform an exorcism.
