Chapter 11
âStop,â Keith said catching her pulling her back against his chest as he held her tightly. âStop running baby.â
âI canât do this. Iâm so sorry for lying to you,â Miranda said, her voice breaking.
âMiranda stop,â he said gently turning her in his arms letting her bury her face in his chest. âShh, baby shh.â
âMiranda,â Wendy said, and she couldnât stop from looking at her for the final confirmation that she wasnât wanted. âI knew it, deep down I knew you were special to me, please donât go.â
Miranda shook her head trying to fight the need to run but it was taking over. Her heart pounded, her hands shook as her muscles tensed, all prepared to flee for safety, protection from the heartache that was about to hit.
âWhy didnât you just tell us when you first got here baby?â Keith asked forcing her to sit down on the bed as he knelt in front of her.
âI couldnât, I never wanted you all to hate me.â
âHate you?â he asked confused. âMiranda, why would we hate you? You are an incredible woman who we both adore.â
âI get it Miranda,â Wendy said kneeling on the bed beside her. âWhy you gave me up, I knew you didnât want to from your letters, but you had to, and you gave me to Dad.â
Miranda closed her eyes wishing the words were true, but she knew they werenât. They never were. On the surface they felt it, but underneath, just when she thought it was safe, they turned on her and drug her down to that awful pit.
âI know you love me Miranda,â Wendy went on. âIâm not mad. How could I be?â
âYou are everything I ever wanted you to be, but I canât stay anymore. I canât do this. Iâll just hurt you both in the end,â Miranda stated finally opening her eyes. âI do love you Wen, more than you will ever know. Iâm so sorry, for everything sweetie.â
She pressed a kiss onto Wendyâs forehead remembering what it felt like to hold her, knowing itâd be the only thing that would get her through this and turned towards Keith. âI never meant to lie to you. Iâm sorry Keith. Thank you for giving her everything I never could have.â
âMiranda, baby stop,â he said hearing the goodbye in her voice.
âThis isnât my life, it canât be,â she told them as she ran from the room and straight to her car.
âMiranda stop!â Keith shouted as she backed out of the driveway.
âDad, we canât lose her,â Wendy said running after him.
âWeâre not going to Wen,â he promised going back to the bedroom as he tossed the journals and letters into the bag. âYouâve still got your overnight bag packed, right?â
âYeah why?â she asked holding onto the first journal.
âIâm going to see if you can stay with Becky tonight, and Iâm going to go after Miranda. Iâm going to bring her home to us.â
âYouâre not mad she didnât tell us?â Wendy asked stopping his insane need to find her until he knew Wendy wanted the same thing.
