Once we get back into the cottage, I make sure to add more wood to the fireplace while everyone else thaws out. I catch Lennon glancing at her ring every minute or so, and I smile when I think about how we nailed that aspect of all of this. We’d planned on officially asking her on this trip—it’s why we chose such a beautiful location—but her suggestion to hold the ceremony actually made the most sense. We’d planned on asking her tonight over dinner, but it worked out to be so much better.

I grab a blanket and wrap it around her shoulders as she sits in front of the growing flames. Her hair is wavy and wild from the wind and cold, and her cheeks are still flushed. Damon and Silas are banging around in the kitchen, getting dinner started. Bending down, I brush a kiss across her cheek. Ice cold.

“Princess, you’re freezing.”

She shrugs, but then I see her shiver a bit. “I’m okay.”

“Get over here,” I purr, pulling her onto my lap. I wrap my arms and legs around her, and she relaxes instantly.

“I didn’t realize how cold I was,” she says softly, teeth chattering.

“I can think of several ways to warm you up,” I muse.

She nudges her shoulder against mine. “Here we are, having a sweet moment in front of the fire, and you have to make a sexual innuendo.”

Laughing, I pull her closer, squeezing until she gasps. “I can’t help it, Lennon Rose. I got a taste and now I’m like an addict ready for my next hit.”

“Mmm, comparing me to heroin, so romantic,” she jokes, but her head rests against my chest. “I love you.” Her voice is soft enough for me to move her off my lap so that I can look at her, and when I do, I bend down to kiss her nose.

“What’s wrong?”

She shrugs, moving the blanket off her. “I just wish you guys had been my first proposal. Instead, I got engaged at a basketball game while my ex-fiancé was drunk off of his ass. They didn’t even get it on camera.”

I chuckle. “He sounds like a winner.”

She’s quiet for a few seconds before answering. “This trip—the proposal and the ring—it’s been perfect. And I guess I have this fear that everything is going to get pulled out from underneath me.”

I sigh, sliding down to my knees so that I can worship her. Knocking her legs apart, I settle between them and take her face in my hands.

“Wherever you get pulled to, we’ll follow you. If that rug slips out from under you, we’ll catch you. I promise you. Always and forever, princess.”

Her lips pull to the side as she studies me. Large, hazel eyes meet mine, and I can’t help but rub my throat to ease the tightness there. I’ve only ever cried twice in my adult life, and both times were because of Lennon.

“Do you remember graduation night?” I ask, looking up at her from my place between her legs.
