Epilogue
During the last week of the challenge, Dara decided to make things interesting for the competing teams by not allowing them to see the step results of the other teams. Summer was frustrated, yet told her team to do their best, but to not overdo it.
Monday morning Summer stopped for bagels and fruits on her way in to work. She was already running a little late from her morning run with Myla, and then the shower they shouldn’t have taken together, that followed. She couldn’t help but have a smile plastered on her face when everyone joined her in the conference room for their weekly meeting.
She greeted everyone and waited while they filled their mugs with coffee and took some food from the counter. When each one was seated and happy, she began, “I want to thank you all for participating in the latest adventure. In the past two weeks everybody did a great job increasing their steps far beyond the minimum. Thank you is all I can say. I appreciate everything that each of you does and hope that you are all happy with our team.”
Eddie stood and gave her a hug. Eddie’s hug was followed by six others. “I think it’s a rare thing for people to enjoy their job as much as I do, and I hope you all feel the same way.” She paused for a moment to regain her thoughts. She had gotten far more sentimental then she planned knowing it probably had something to do with her conversations with Myla about her job.
“Enough sappiness for the day,” she said waving her hand. “We need to be at the gym by 3:00 p.m. Whatever happens, happens. We all gained something from this experience and I’m very proud.”
Everyone nodded their heads and she received a thank you from Lena, with the others agreeing. After a light discussion, Summer began their weekly meeting.
Three o’clock rolled around and though Summer was nervous about the results, she was also excited to see Myla. Dara had everyone go through the usual routine of vitals and the treadmill. When everyone was finished she announced that the Spellman Company had taken the most steps of the challenge and would be receiving a free gym. She would discuss the details with them the following day. Summer’s team had come in second place and although everyone was a little bit upset, they still received a discount on the gym and company health benefits. Myla’s team came in fourth place with she and Vanessa pulling close to double the number of steps needed to try and increase her team’s results.
After the meeting, they all decided dinner and a drink would be a nice follow-up. Summer’s Mexican restaurant won out because they were all feeling like a margarita. As the clock approached 10:00 p.m., she and Myla begged out, claiming they would be running in the morning. Everyone knew otherwise by the way they held hands under the table and stole glances at one another throughout dinner.
