CRAFTING IS SERIOUS BUSINESS

“Riley?” Nelle asked. “Do you think you could help me find a costume too?” Second-grader Nelle was a shy kid who spoke in a soft voice.

“Of course!” said Riley. Nelle wanted to be The Grouchy Ladybug, because being grouchy is fun. In a box, Riley and Nelle found a skirt with red pom-poms on it.

“I could pull these off, stick them on pipe cleaners, and glue them to a headband for antennae!” said Nelle.

“Easy!” said Riley. They pulled out a good-sized scrap of sequined black fabric. “Do you have a red T-shirt?” asked Riley. Nelle nodded. “You could cut circles out of this and pin them on for that glamorous, spotty ladybug effect,” Riley continued.
