I MOVED CAREFULLY DOWN the huge stairs. Allo walked alongside me, so I instructed her to stay low by motioning with my nose. I had no idea what was ahead. Without warning, Treant started slowly advancing behind us. I expected that as we went underground it would grow dark, but it seemed like the depths of the cavern were illuminated by a fire, possibly a candlestick. Theories of an underground Adam kingdom filled my head, becoming more and more intense as I thought about them, and I could sense an overwhelming presence rising up from the depths.

Until now, whatever lay ahead seemed to have been hiding its presence, but now I was struck almost physically by a strong wave of oppression. I felt almost intimidated. Should I back down? There was no doubt that whatever was in store for us was something greater than Adam. No way, could it be the master of the Divine Voice?

As long as I was dealing with that voice, there was no doubt in my mind that there was someone who wanted to guide me in some way. If such a thing existed, it would almost certainly be at the end of the world, and this place, which was said to be located at the end of the world, fit the bill.

Oh, hey, Partner, how are you doing?

(“What, you came all this way and now you’re finally asking me?”)

No, no, it’s just that your intuition is pretty accurate.

(“This isn’t something you can just look at and figure out, y’know.”)

Her response was neither positive nor negative. Hmm. But even if we were to be attacked, I figured I could take Allo and the others and run away as long as I didn’t get knocked out in a single blow. If there was a bad guy down here, he’d almost certainly attack me the moment I stepped inside.

As I chewed this over, a thought popped into my head.

‹It’s been a while. You survived the Adams just fine. You aren’t from the island, are you? Come closer.›

Hey, is that the Telepathy skill?!

It was just Telepathy, but it felt quite heavy. It was the first time I’d felt like this. Whatever it was, it was at least the same rank as Adam, so A or higher was a given. It didn’t seem to be the Divine Voice, but I really couldn’t say with certainty.

‹Hurry up, don’t make me wait.›

There was irritation in his voice. He didn’t seem terribly patient.

(“What a cocky bastard. Let’s eat ’em.”)

Partner clacked her fangs.

It seems like it could be friendly, so let’s try and play nice.

(“It’s looking down on you, y’know.”)

Well, maybe, but… This being was actually acting quite calm even after I’d taken down that trio of opponents. If Allo and the others hadn’t helped out, I probably wouldn’t have been able to kill them, and I would’ve had to run away.

As I proceeded slowly, I saw a number of candlesticks lining the hall, and at the very back was a dragon that was one size bigger than me, with a body covered in a shiny, purple scales.
