Chapter Fifteen

Emmy

Jaxsen is standing near the SUV when I step outside and jog down the stairs. It feels like it’s been so long since I’ve seen him. I’m practically sprinting toward him when I run and jump into his arms.

Greg is standing behind him, chuckling, when Jaxsen holds out his arms, ready to catch me.

“Hi Greg,” I sing, my arms and legs wrapped around Jaxsen.

“Ms. Kincaid.” He nods toward me. “Nice to see you.”

“You, too.” I smile, pulling back to stare down at Jaxsen.

He’s wearing the biggest smile I’ve ever seen on his face. I hold his face in my hands, feeling the rough stubble beneath my palms before I kiss him.

Hard and full of passion, making up for every second we’ve been apart.

I don’t know how things seemed to progress between us so fast, but he’s quickly become one of the most important people in my life.

When we’re not together, I’m thinking about him. We’ve survived the last couple weeks by texting and FaceTiming as often as we can. I was so used to being away from Matthew when we were together, as both of our jobs had us working out of town. Despite being together for almost three years, I never felt as close to him or missed him as much as I have being away from Jaxsen.

I think it says a lot about the difference between the two relationships.

Time and distance mean nothing when someone means so much to you.

Jaxsen makes an effort, even when we’re apart, to make me feel special and to let me know he’s thinking of me. Whether it’s a good morning message, sending flowers with a note saying he misses me, or even ordering dinner to be delivered one night so we could eat together.

It’s not about the money or what he gives me, but the intention behind everything he does.

I guess when you’ve been mistreated in the past, you come to appreciate the little things.

“Hi baby,” he murmurs when he pulls back.

“Hello to you.” I rub my lips together, feeling them tingle from his kiss, attempting to cover up the smile threatening to break across my face.

He lowers me to the ground, and I take a step back, getting a good look at him. He looks delicious in his black joggers and T-shirt. The material is thin for the warm summer air of Miami, enough to outline the front of his pants.

My eyes stop before darting back up to look at him.

“What?” he asks, raising a questioning brow.

“Nothing,” I quip.

Doesn’t he have any idea how dangerous sweatpants are to women?

I step past him, brushing my hand over the front of his pants. He sucks in a deep breath as I climb into the back passenger seat.

His eyes blaze with desire when I cast him a knowing look. He leans over me, reaching for the belt buckle, and I smirk.

“Want me to take care of that for you?” I grin, implying the double meaning.

He pulls back from me and shakes his head. “Like hell you will.
