Reaper

They got back on the road and Reaper wasn’t sure what to do about the pictures that Ringer sent him earlier that morning. When he first saw them, he wanted to go off and do something stupid like drive back to NOLA and face his boss head on. But, he also knew his girl enough to know she would never allow him to go in alone and the idea of Lizzy tagging along changed his mind. They needed a plan and if he didn’t come up with one quickly, he’d be putting Lizzy, her sister and her niece into as much trouble as he and Sophie were currently in.

“Will we stop soon for the new cell phone?” Lizzy nervously asked. She had spent most of the car ride that morning, fidgeting and on edge. Reaper wished he could help her, but he also knew the only thing he could really do for her would be to find a way to let her speak with Lyra.

“Soon,” he promised. Although, he had no fucking idea where the next place they could stop was and he had to worry about someone following them. Before he packed Lizzy and their meager belongings into her car earlier that morning, Ringer called to give him an update. Anthony Sr. had men in the area and they had already been in touch with Ringer. He said they were asking him questions about Reaper’s whereabouts and he tried to put them off his trail. He still wasn’t sure if he could even trust Ringer, but as long as he had Sophie, Reaper didn’t really have a choice. He wouldn’t tell Lizzy this, but he was just as eager to get new cell phones so he could talk to Sophie. It was killing him not knowing who to believe when all he wanted to do was help his sister.

“What if she’s in danger?” Lizzy sobbed and it just about broke his damn heart in two.

“Hey, don’t do that to yourself, baby,” he crooned. Reaper reached for her hand and she pulled away from him. Her rejection stung and he pulled to the side of the road. “Lizzy,” he whispered. “Let me in.” He sounded like he was begging and maybe he was. Reaper had never met anyone quite like Lizzy. Sure, they seemed to have a physical connection but it went deeper than that. He was a part of her nightly dreams now and that thought was both terrifying and comforting to him. At first when it happened, he didn’t really believe that they were a part of the same dream. He thought his overly active libido was just conjuring Lizzy up for a hot wet dream, but nothing really happened and when they woke up, he realized that they had shared some psychic connection that went far beyond his understanding. Hell, Lizzy didn’t seem to understand them showing up in the same dream together and she had admitted to being a seer for quite some time.

“I’m scared,” she admitted.
