CHAPTER THIRTEEN
Mona
Itâs been two weeks since Joaquin and I became an us. Weâve spent time together when we can. Between both of our careers and our kids, weâre both busy. We do talk every night before bed as do the kids.
Samâs called a few times to talk to Iris, but he hasnât attempted to see her again. My daughter is leery of him now, and I hate it. If she decides that she doesnât want to see him, then Iâll abide by her wishes.
I focus on the laptop and pay the bills for the studio. When no one else is here, thatâs when I get the most work done. I love my sisters and couldnât do this without them, but they love to distract me when Iâm trying to do the work that they voted for me to do.
Once I pay the last one, I file all of the bills with their confirmation numbers written on them into their folders. I hear the chime of the front door opening and know that whoever it is has a key.
A moment later Miles is standing in the doorway. âHey. What are you doing here?â I come around my desk and wrap my arms around him.
âI hit my word count for the day and knew youâd be here paying bills. How about we go out to lunch?â
I grab my phone and check my schedule. âSure. My first client isnât for a couple hours.â After shutting down my laptop, I grab my purse and follow Miles out. He leads me to his Jeep Cherokee and opens the door for me.
On the way to our favorite sandwich shop, he tells me the plot of the next book heâs going to be writing. Ever since he was little, he would make up these elaborate stories. Our parents really supported his craft. Hell, theyâve always supported us and our choicesâeven if they didnât understand the whole tattoo thing at first.
We reach Happyâs and head inside, grabbing a table by the window. Our waitress takes our order and goes to get our drinks.
âHow are things going with Joaquin?â Heâs the only one of my siblings who knows what happened when Joaquin broke things off. I needed to talk to someone, and my brother was the best bet.
âGood, except we havenât really had time together lately. Between the studio and Iris, Iâve been swamped. Heâs been really busy too.â
Our waitress sets our drinks down in front of us. âIf you want I can take Iris for the weekend, so you guys can spend some time together.â
âYouâre sweet to offer. Iâll talk to him and see what he wants to do. I know his cousin usually watches Max, but he tries not to do anything without his son during the weekends. He likes to give Victoria breaks.â I love that about Joaquin. He doesnât just dump his kid off on other people so he can have a social life.
âIf heâs cool with it, I could take him too. From what youâve said he sounds like a good kid.
