Chapter Seven
Micah stood in front of the expanse of glass that made up one wall of their hotel room, staring out into the storm. It had only been a few months since theyâd visited here before, and both had been miraculously cured. This time the city was not as inviting. The solid gray clouds left the sky dim and featureless. The rain came down in torrents, and he detected the occasional crystal of ice in the hundreds of tiny streams covering the glass. Between the rain sheeting from the window and the darkening clouds, he questioned his decision, again.
A set of familiar hands were slipped around his waist, and he glanced over his shoulder to give James a smile. âLovely night.â
Jagged lightning appeared in the sky and the boom that followed resonated through him. âYeah, just freaking great.â He pulled Micah close and kissed his neck. âYou going to be okay tonight?â
He turned his back to the light show, twined his arms around Jamesâs waist, and grabbed his butt. He teasingly bounced their crotches together and then pulled them tight against each other.
âIâll be fine. I have my oh-so-stylish knee-length overcoat and the wonderful scarf my husband bought me. I plan to have a great meal of something we canât get at home, walk through a few clubs, and be home long before midnight.â
Jamesâs lips twisted. âI donât have to go to the business dinner thing. I can go with you.â
Micah tensed as he saw his careful plan crumbling. âNo. Go talk plants and drainage. I know how that stuff turns you on. Iâll be fine. I promise to be careful.â
âOkay, make sure you have your phone. You call me if something happens. Promise.â
âOkay, okay. I promise. You relax; youâve earned some downtime. Besides, you like these conferences.â
âTheyâre always fun until someone gets drunk and decides they can fart the alphabet.â
Micah wrinkled his nose in disgust. âYouâve got to be kidding.â
James lifted his eyebrows almost to his hairline. âYouâve met David?â
âYes. And ick, how nasty.â
Jamesâs deep laughter filled the room.
