"How's the party-planning coming?" Michael asked late the following afternoon when he found Savannah at the desk in their office.

"Good. We have several positive responses. Just about everyone will be here." She smiled. "Peter and Rochelle are coming up with Simon, and they've agreed to let Simon stay so the boys can work on their presentation. I haven't told Adam yet, but Simon probably has by now."

"Great!" Michael said. "That will be a special treat for the boys. Maybe they can spend a night or two with Adam's mom and Eric. I know that Marci wants to meet Simon."

"They'll meet him at Adam's party," Savannah reminded him.

"Yes, but it would be nice if they got a chance to know him, since he and Adam are so thick."

"Makes sense," Savannah said. She cringed. "I'm pretty sure the boys will want me involved in the planning sessions for their program. Adam keeps calling and asking me questions."

"And they'll have Rags right here to work with so they can test their ideas," Michael said.

She grinned. "Yeah, but what a cat does once doesn't necessarily mean that's what the cat's going to do the next time."

"So true," Michael said. "Are they bringing the bird?"

"Clayton?" Savannah said, "I don't think so. Rochelle didn't say anything about that."

"But he's going to be part of the program," he said. "It might actually be a good idea. One thing about Rags and Clayton is that they like each other. Rags is the one who sort of birdnapped Clayton and Matilda."

"It was more like a rescue," Savannah said. "Remember, the birds were flying free in that park we stopped at that time when we were driving down to see the Whitcombs." Savannah leaned back in her chair. "Well, if they want to bring Clayton, I guess they'll let us know. The more the merrier, right?"

He rolled his eyes, then asked, "Did you talk to Marci and Eric? How do they feel about Adam's idea for the family party?"

She smiled. "They seem pleased that Adam wants us all together as opposed to him celebrating with a bunch of his guy friends. Marci thought it would be fun. Rose is excited about playing with Lily."

He smiled, then asked, "So when are Peter and Rochelle coming?"

"Saturday morning. They'll leave for home Sunday, and we'll take Simon to the city when we go down for the boys' program the following Friday. The events are next Saturday, right? When do you check in? You're one of the volunteer veterinarians aren't you? Did you get accepted?"

He nodded. "Yes, I just need to show up Saturday morning along with the exhibitors. There will be two of us on call for veterinary services."

"How many animals will be involved?" she asked.

"They figure around thirty or forty," he said, "but they should be pretty healthy."

"You get all those animals together, though," Savannah said, "and in a strange place, and things can happen. You know how accident-prone farm, animals can be."
