Chapter Fourteen

It was two days later when Penny saw Darren at a parents’ meeting at the high school.

One of his daughters was in class with Jackson, and as the parents filled the small classroom at seven that evening, she found herself sitting opposite of him, smiling from across the class as he eased his muscular frame into one of the chairs and attached desks. The charter bus company and tour guides are stringent on this stuff…”

The teacher droned on. Penny tried her hardest to focus. Her eyes wouldn’t leave Darren, though.

His eyes seemed glued to her, too.

He smiled. She smiled back. He looked to the teacher in the center of the room, but soon his gaze was back on Penny.

Penny felt flush and hoped the other parents could not see her reaction. Were her cheeks glowing red?

The irony of it all was not lost on her. Here they were, back in the same high school they’d attended, flirting once more.

At least Penny thought that’s what she was doing.
