“What the fuck is going on?” I barked into the phone when Garrison answered.

No response.

“Where is she?” I demanded. “She’s not answering her phone.”

“Hawk took her home,” Garrison finally said, his tone clipped.

I sighed, feeling some relief. From the moment I read the text message from Duke, which had informed me of an altercation between Journey and Wayne Parson, I’d been pacing the floor of my hotel room.

“He confronted her?” I asked, wanting someone to confirm what happened.

Unfortunately, from what I could tell, Duke had come in on the tail end of things after being summoned by Nick. At least from what Duke’s message said. He wasn’t sure what had prompted the altercation, but it was handled. Duke had overseen Wayne being escorted from the premises because Nick had terminated him, his id badge revoked.

“Yeah,” Garrison said drily, his voice lowering. “With a fucking soundtrack to her and Hawk in the storage closet.”

“What?”

“I only heard bits and pieces. But it was definitely them. Their voices were pretty damn clear.”

I thrust my hand through my hair. “Where the fuck did he get that from?”

“My guess is the fucker stood outside the room and recorded it.”

This mother fucker knew no bounds, did he? Once with a fucking camera hadn’t been enough for him. He had to go and record her?

“Did anyone else hear it?”

Garrison sighed, and some of his frustration disappeared. “Not that I could tell. I saw him facing off with her, so I came over. Everyone else was working. Wayne did announce Journey’s profile name on that site, though.”

“That shit’s gone. It won’t matter.”

“True.”

“Do you have the recording?”

“No, but we’ve got the phone. It was accidentally damaged in the altercation.”

I took a deep breath for the first time since Garrison answered.

“Doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a backup copy, Creed.”

That was true, but Wayne Parson wasn’t the brightest fucking bulb. There was a good chance he was like everyone else who never thought to make a backup because they believed their phone would always be with them.

“I’ll have Rule’s team hack his cloud account to make sure,” I told him.

“Good idea.”

“Is she okay?”

“Shocked, mostly, I think. She’s in good hands, Creed. You don’t have to worry about her.”

Maybe not, but I would. Something told me I should’ve stayed in LA, but I’d come here anyway. I was trying not to be selfish. It had become too easy to focus on Journey, ignoring the other important things in my life. Austere was in good hands with the management team I had in place, so I didn’t have to worry about it. The same couldn’t be said for the club. Because I usually relied on Garrison or Nick to handle things in my absence, I had no one to take over in the interim. And Primal Instincts was my baby, but I didn’t get to this point on my own. Perhaps it wasn’t the most important thing in my life anymore, but people depended on me.

I took a deep breath and let it out.
