Chapter 10

I closed my eyes. “How could this happen?”

Ramos’s brows drew together, and he let go of my arms. “Wait. So an independent trucker picked it up?” At my nod, he continued. “Do you know where it’s going?”

“Yeah… to L.A.” I rubbed my face and glanced at Blythe. He was still out, and his mouth was opened and drooling a bit.

Uncle Joey came to my side. “It can still work out, Shelby. All we have to do is tell the trucker to come back. There’s still time.” He glanced at Blythe. “I’m sure he has the information. You can get it out of him without any problems.” He was thinking that I shouldn’t forget how powerful my ability was.

That calmed me down, and I nodded. “You’re right. We can still do this.”

Uncle Joey put his arm around me and pulled me close, patting my back. “It might even be easier this way. We won’t have to deal with the port, and I’m sure the driver can be… persuaded to help us out.”

I nodded, letting out a breath. Pulling away, I met his gaze. “You’re the best. Sorry I freaked out like that.”

“Forget about it.” Uncle Joey turned to Ramos. “We’d better restrain him before he comes around.”

Ramos nodded. “I’ll get the cuffs.” He left for his room and came back with a pair of handcuffs. Pulling Blythe’s unresisting arms behind him, Ramos snapped them around his wrists. Blythe began to moan, and kept trying to move, but he didn’t have much success.

Ramos caught my gaze. “It’ll be a few minutes before he can talk.”

I nodded. “Yeah… maybe I shouldn’t have done that.” Ramos raised a brow, and I relented. “Okay… it felt good, but now we have to wait.”

“A few minutes won’t make much of a difference.”

“I hope not.”

Jade came to my side and patted my arm. “I’m glad you did it. I think he deserved it.”

I smiled at her. “Hey, thanks for helping us out. You really had him fooled.”

She shrugged. “It was fun.”

“So, have you seen Chris?” I couldn’t help asking. “Is he okay?”

“Yeah… I actually saw him this morning.”

“Oh yeah? How’d he look?”

“He looks good.”

Something bothered her, and my heart jumped. “What is it? What’s wrong?”

Her brows rose, then she remembered I had premonitions. “Oh… it’s nothing. He looks fine. No one’s beat him up or anything. It’s just that Li’s being a pain in the ass.”

“What do you mean?”

“He’s just… antsy.” She was thinking that the container they planned to put Chris in would only be available until eight tonight, and Li didn’t want to miss it. After that, it was being loaded onto the ship. In fact, Li would put him in there right now and have it loaded if he could get away with it.

My breath caught, and I grabbed her arm. “Don’t let Li put Chris in the container. Okay? We’ll come through with our deal, I promise.”

With her eyes wide, she nodded. “I’m sure you will.” She’d do what she could, but she had her doubts that she could stop Li, and it worried her.
