BILLY’S BILLIARDS was off the beaten path. Neon bar lights shot

their garish glow into the night sky, but the gravel parking lot was fuller than Dominick would have expected from the looks of the place. He glanced over at Joseph. “You don’t have to go in.”

“It’s okay.” “I doubt he’ll be here anyway. Zeb seems like too smart of a guy.”

Joseph shrugged. “Not too smart if he’s got the Marshals after him.”

As they entered the bar, several customers looked up at them. Their gazes traced over Joseph, dismissing him easily, then turned to Dominick. Shifters. The bar was full of them. All conversation ceased. The bartender came around the bar and stood in front of Dominick. A big guy, his muscled arms would be intimidating on any day, but Dominick’s nose told him more of the story. The bartender was a wolf. Dominick’s nostrils flared. He hadn’t picked out an individual scent on the wolves he’d smelled at the mountain lion compound, but he raised his guard. Better safe than sorry.

“You’re new,” the bartender said as he crossed his arms over his chest.

Dominick nodded. “I’m not looking for trouble.”

“Good. We don’t like strangers around here. I’m Billy.” He sniffed the air around Dominick and his lip curled. “And you’re a cat.”

“Mountain lion, actually. Like I said, I’m not here to cause any trouble.”

Billy’s gaze drifted over to Joseph and then back again. “Brought a human with you?”

“I did. That a problem?”

Billy shrugged and went back behind the bar. “What can I get you?”

“Information.” Dominick pulled the photograph of Zeb from his pocket and passed it over. “Looking for this guy.”

Billy raised a brow. His lips pressed together in a stubborn line. “What makes you think I can give you information on him?”

Dominick debated with himself for a moment before reaching into his back pocket and pulling out his badge. He flipped it open and let Billy see it. “This isn’t a personal matter.”

Billy whistled long and low. “Didn’t know they’d let our kind in that kind of work.”

“They don’t know. I’d like to keep it that way.”

“No doubt.” Billy stared at him for a long moment before nodding toward the back wall.

Dominick nodded his thanks and asked for a beer. While Billy filled the glass, Dominick turned and scanned the room. He picked out Zeb easier than he should have been able to. He looked nothing like the picture Dominick had. Zeb’s hair had been bleached blond, and he wore a pair of glasses that helped camouflage his features. Dominick didn’t let his gaze rest on Zeb for more than a second as he eyed the rest of the room.

Suspicious glances were still being sent his way, but no one seemed inclined to start trouble. He turned to Joseph as Billy handed over the ordered drink. “Remember what I said?”

Joseph nodded. He had Morgan’s number on speed dial. If there was any trouble, Joseph would get out of the bar and call the other marshal.

Dominick made his way back toward Zeb, who sat in the corner by himself.
