He pressed send then regretted it. He’d never been this indecisive about a bounty before. It bugged him.

“My turn to drive,” he announced. At least if he were driving, he wouldn’t be trying to catch a glimpse of Domino’s face every few seconds or admiring the way his jeans hugged his thighs.

If I ever get a place of my own, I’d build a tank for him to swim in so that I could watch him all the time.

And where the fuck did that thought come from?

The rest of the day went pretty much as the day before, except Jude didn’t get any more than a general conversation out of Domino. That night, the siren crawled into his sleeping bag again without offering to share. Jude’s disappointment annoyed him.

Domino hesitated instead of resting his head on the pillow. “Are you going to read again?”

Jude’s jaw creaked as he yawned. It always felt so much better in his fur form. “Want me to read aloud again? I thought you’d be sick of the sound of my voice by now.” Silence stretched. Jude thought Domino might have dropped off to sleep.

“I kinda like it.”

“Did anyone read you bedtime stories as a kid? My mom read to me and my sister; it’s one of my most precious memories.”

“I used to listen to the singing downstairs in the evening. Unless it was freezing, I used to leave my bedroom window open so I could hear better.”

“Sounds nice. So they sang every evening?”

“Yeah. All sororities do it; it’s a bonding thing.”

“But you weren’t allowed to join in?”

Domino didn’t answer, just snuggled down. Jude got his tablet out.
