Chapter 7

Leah walked around the huge luxurious apartment and touched each strategically placed furnishing slowly. She had spent an agonizing amount of time at her apartment wondering if she was making the right move and then a further few hours deciding what to wear. She had finally decided on faded denims and a bulky black sweater and knee length boots. She had packed an overnight case with a filmy lavender nightgown and matching panties. She had stopped and stared at the contents for a moment with the realization that she was packing for a seduction trip! She might be out of a job depending on what he decided. But all she could think about was being with him!

He had the penthouse suite naturally and the apartment, although the height of luxury, was very impersonal without any personal photos scattered around. There were a few pricey artworks on the living room walls and some along the corridor leading to the suite of rooms. His bedroom was painted in a cool grey that looked more like ash grey mixed with dove grey and gave the appearance of more space. A huge king sized bed dominated the room and his closet was larger than her tiny apartment with a few suits hanging from the rails. From what she had learned about him was that he had apartments in several places and never stayed at one place for too long. She left the suite and went into the kitchen. A housekeeper maybe had left a dish of lasagna in the warmer and a bottle of wine cooling in the cooler. There was nothing for her to do and she felt like an interloper in the large ultra-modern kitchen. An electronic fire blazed in the hearth, giving the place a warm glow. She decided to make herself some hot chocolate while she waited. He had called her a few hours ago to make sure she was there and said he would be there before seven. She glanced at the clock and saw that it was almost six. She put the kettle to boil and took out a packaged powdered chocolate from the pantry and made the beverage. She had finished sipping the hot chocolate and rinsed out the cup when she heard the doorknob turning. She moved from the sink and stood there in the kitchen. She had taken off her boots and her sweater and was wearing the camisole she had worn underneath. Her long black hair was loose around her face and in her stocking feet she seemed so much smaller. He stopped at the doorway and stared at her. She looked so young, he thought with a pang.

“I helped myself to some hot chocolate. I hope you don’t mind,” she told him softly. He had shed his jacket and tie and loosened two of the buttons on his shirt. Somehow the move made him look slightly more approachable.

He shook his head no as he came further inside the room.

“I think your housekeeper made lasagna and there is a bottle of wine cooling in the bucket.
