Chapter Seven

GRADEN stretched and yawned funny as a deep shudder moved through him. He pointed his toes and fingers, and his hips lifted. He inhaled, held his breath, and then exhaled utter contentment. Cole’s arm, heavy and possessive and welcome across his waist, rode out the movements and then tugged him in again as he rolled onto his side and into the heat emanating from there.

“Good morning,” he whispered and opened his eyes.

Cole smiled at him. “It sure is.”

They stared at each other, grinning and goofy, and then his alarm sounded.

He cast about for his phone, remembered he’d slipped it into the seat pocket, jabbed it quiet, and settled in again.

“Sorry. Forgot about that last night.”

Cole forgave him with a kiss and a warm, lazy hand under his shirts.

“It’s about twenty minutes to sunrise if you want to get up and get some pictures,” he said between a third kiss and a fourth.

“Do you want to get up? It’s cold out there.”

Graden shivered just thinking about it. It was blissfully warm in the steamed-up car, and forbidding ice crystals formed a thin shell coating the outside. But much as he might want to wallow, the lack of a pillow was making itself known in his shoulders, and the sleep mat was no match for the hard seatbacks or Cole’s weight pushing him into them. Much as he liked the Cole’s weight part.

“You’ll just have to keep me warm.” He eased onto his back and winced as various muscles protested. “I don’t want to get up from this, but I do want to see it. That and you might have plenty of pictures of sunrises elsewhere, but we can’t let your first time here be a missed opportunity.”

Cole’s hands twitched when he said first time, and then it was a blur of Cole’s growl and powerful hands and getting dragged into a heated kiss.

“I think I’ve made the most of it,” Cole said, voice hoarse and thrumming with pleasure when their kiss finally broke. He spread his hand on Graden’s belly. “What if we just stay here all day? Explore every option, take every trail, read every last sign.”

Graden swallowed a moan as Cole’s hand drifted lower. “Counterpoint.” He paused so he could keep his voice steady as Cole wreaked havoc by kissing along his neck to bite his earlobe. “What if we drive to the overlook, catch the sunrise, come back here for breakfast and tidy the car, and then see what the day brings.”

“You’re quite the taskmaster, Mr. CD.” Cole huffed but laughed as he levered to sit on his heels. “But you’re right. I do want to see it and get pictures and—don’t say I didn’t warn you.” He turned, opened the hatch door, and swung out to land on his feet.

A blast of cold air made Graden recoil as Cole stretched full with an unconcerned grin while blowing deep breaths to cloud thickly around him.

“I hate you,” Graden muttered and worked to get kinda clean with the wet wipe Cole tossed at him, and then redressed mostly under the sleeping bag.
