Carrigan watched as Everett walked off with their princess in his arms and then looked to Aziz. “What’s the issue?”

“Poppy is asking for a few things. Come on.”

They walked up to where Poppy was standing with the priests, Kendarla and her father, to hear the queen complaining.

“She needs her full guard,” the woman said and then shot a scathing look at Carrigan and Aziz. “She needs to assimilate her new guard. Jesus, we almost lost her.”

“I think you almost lost her because she went after Princess Verity,” Aziz said and then bowed slightly at the waist. That was Aziz, telling you to eat shit in the nicest, most respectable way possible.

“Be that as it may,” the queen said, her eyes shining at the prince, “she needs to be able to be at peak physical condition. Her new guard will make that possible.”

“Where the hell are these guard coming from?” Carrigan asked. “Volunteers like Hodgekiss?”

“My auxiliary guard have asked to take up the mantle of Starlight guard. As allies, it is only right,” Kendarla said and lifted her chin.

Aziz scoffed. “I am aware of that rule, however, Princess Adora was a deciding factor in their demise.” He looked to the two priests standing with them. “Princess Adora’s guard laid siege to the Sleeping Court Sithen, causing them to expire early. She is the reason why she is without a full guard, and had the queen not pushed up the competition, then she would have had the opportunity to gather more.”

“Those are severe allegations, I hope you understand the severity of implying that Adora or Starlight…” Queen Poppy started.

“No implying, Queen Poppy, I was there.” Aziz smiled. “As was my guard, and the heads of the shifter families.”

“Regardless of his testimony, Adora needs to be able to welcome her new guard. I ask for an extra day for this to happen. Bare minimum needed.”

The priests looked at each other, but no words were spoken between them, as if they were speaking to each other through their thoughts. The one on the left nodded before turning to address them.

"Princess Adora shall be allowed a full day to assimilate her guard. As for the other accusations, this is not the time nor the place to be addressing such matters. Those are for the governing matriarch to deal with."

Aziz scoffed again. “Yeah, ‘cause that’s going to happen. I was told your order was fair and just…” He shook his head.

Carrigan sighed. “And our princess? She has the same allowance?”

"Royal law is royal law, Prince Kamalam. We do not adjust the laws for anyone, we only make sure they are followed. If Princess Verity becomes queen and changes those laws, we will uphold them." His attention turned to Carrigan. "What allowances are you requisitioning for your princess?"

“That she be afforded the same time and opportunities Queen Poppy is asking for Adora.” He looked to Aziz.

"Is she needing to bring additional guard into her fold? If so, Princess Verity will have the same twenty-four hours as Princess Adora.
