Klus stared daggers at the old man, fitting greatly with the weapon still on his belt. Monty couldn’t understand the hostility, however.

"You are wasting your time doing it for free," Klus said. "You are giving a service with nothing to gain from it."

"I wouldn’t say that, actually," Monty interjected before the smaller man could start up a longer rant. He had prepared for this day. "While I might not get repaid in monetary currency, the favor I gain from the people helps me greatly. And the experience that I’m given is no laughing matter. I have upgraded my spells more times than I can count without having to wait for my friends to be hurt. It takes nothing more than a stroll around this place, and I have the perfect people to try out minor variations of my spells on. It doesn’t have any chance of harming them, but it allows me to increase my skill more quickly. In the end, everything favors me while still helping the people around me. Doesn’t that just sound ideal?"
