“Who’s that man talking to Quinn?” I casually asked Caspian while I tapped a couple of beers. They’d been intensely conversing for ten minutes now and it didn’t look like a fun conversation.

Caspian placed the beers on his tray. “I believe it’s her father.”

“Father?”

“Yes,” he replied before making his way onto the floor and leaving me to spectate the hushed argument. Even if I couldn’t make out what they were saying, it was clear they weren’t happy.

I could recognise Quinn’s stink eye from a mile away.

No, it wasn’t even that. The girl looked like she was about to burst into tears.

What should I do? Did I leave them to it or should I interrupt? Was I entitled to do that? Sure, I was her boss, but this looked like something personal. Then again, there was something personal going on between Quinn and I. Not to mention, she was at work.

I straightened my back and strolled over to the two. “Hello.”

Quinn’s head snapped up, but the man’s attention didn’t change. He just held up a hand to me. “Busy.”

Rude.

I crossed my arms, annoyance flaring up in my stomach. “Excuse me?”

He reluctantly looked at me. “I said, we’re busy.”

“And you’re in my bar,” I explained, trying to keep myself from lashing out. “You’re holding up my employée.”

Quinn’s father rolled his eyes. “Bugger off. I’m having a chat with my daughter.”

How dared he.

“I will not bugger off,” I snapped. Maybe I’d come with the intent to rescue Quinn from this conversation, but now it was personal. I didn’t care who he was, I wouldn’t allow anyone to speak to me like that.

“Olivia…” Quinn tried, her voice much meeker than I’d ever heard.

“Table four needs you,” I announced. “Go.”

“Are you sure…?” Her gaze flickered between her dad and I.

“Yes, go.”

Relief filled her eyes and she shot me a grateful look as she grabbed a tray, eager to escape the conversation. “Okay, boss.”

Her dad snapped his fingers. “Hey! We’re not done talking.”

“Yes, you are.” I glared at the man. “It’s time to leave the bar.”

He let out a rumbling laugh. “You’re asking me to leave?”

“That’s correct.”

His laugh quickly died out when he realised I was serious and his tone quickly changed. “You’re asking me to leave?”

“You heard me.”

“You must be joking. Is this how you treat all your customers?”

I didn’t deem that question worth an answer, so I remained silent. If he was as clever as he thought himself to be, he could figure out what it meant.

He scoffed and slapped a couple of bills on the bar. “Suit yourself. No wonder your bar is empty. Keep the change. You clearly need it.”

Without saying much else except glare at his daughter, he strode to the door and left Rainbow Central. Only when he was outside and gone, I could breathe again.

What an asshole. Quinn certainly wasn’t like that.

I stared at my shaking hands, trying to keep my head clear. The frustration washed over me, drowning out any sense and filling me with a desire I’d been fighting off for days now.
