âWhoâs that man talking to Quinn?â I casually asked Caspian while I tapped a couple of beers. Theyâd been intensely conversing for ten minutes now and it didnât look like a fun conversation.
Caspian placed the beers on his tray. âI believe itâs her father.â
âFather?â
âYes,â he replied before making his way onto the floor and leaving me to spectate the hushed argument. Even if I couldnât make out what they were saying, it was clear they werenât happy.
I could recognise Quinnâs stink eye from a mile away.
No, it wasnât even that. The girl looked like she was about to burst into tears.
What should I do? Did I leave them to it or should I interrupt? Was I entitled to do that? Sure, I was her boss, but this looked like something personal. Then again, there was something personal going on between Quinn and I. Not to mention, she was at work.
I straightened my back and strolled over to the two. âHello.â
Quinnâs head snapped up, but the manâs attention didnât change. He just held up a hand to me. âBusy.â
Rude.
I crossed my arms, annoyance flaring up in my stomach. âExcuse me?â
He reluctantly looked at me. âI said, weâre busy.â
âAnd youâre in my bar,â I explained, trying to keep myself from lashing out. âYouâre holding up my employée.â
Quinnâs father rolled his eyes. âBugger off. Iâm having a chat with my daughter.â
How dared he.
âI will not bugger off,â I snapped. Maybe Iâd come with the intent to rescue Quinn from this conversation, but now it was personal. I didnât care who he was, I wouldnât allow anyone to speak to me like that.
âOliviaâ¦â Quinn tried, her voice much meeker than Iâd ever heard.
âTable four needs you,â I announced. âGo.â
âAre you sureâ¦?â Her gaze flickered between her dad and I.
âYes, go.â
Relief filled her eyes and she shot me a grateful look as she grabbed a tray, eager to escape the conversation. âOkay, boss.â
Her dad snapped his fingers. âHey! Weâre not done talking.â
âYes, you are.â I glared at the man. âItâs time to leave the bar.â
He let out a rumbling laugh. âYouâre asking me to leave?â
âThatâs correct.â
His laugh quickly died out when he realised I was serious and his tone quickly changed. âYouâre asking me to leave?â
âYou heard me.â
âYou must be joking. Is this how you treat all your customers?â
I didnât deem that question worth an answer, so I remained silent. If he was as clever as he thought himself to be, he could figure out what it meant.
He scoffed and slapped a couple of bills on the bar. âSuit yourself. No wonder your bar is empty. Keep the change. You clearly need it.â
Without saying much else except glare at his daughter, he strode to the door and left Rainbow Central. Only when he was outside and gone, I could breathe again.
What an asshole. Quinn certainly wasnât like that.
I stared at my shaking hands, trying to keep my head clear. The frustration washed over me, drowning out any sense and filling me with a desire Iâd been fighting off for days now.
