I TOOK A TAXI TO HER apartment. The place was nothing like where I lived.
âHey! Come on up! Iâm almost ready!â Lacy shouted from the balcony a couple stories up.
I nodded and looked around before walking through the door on the first floor.
I took the elevator up to her floor and walked down to her apartment, knocking.
âDoor is unlocked!â she shouted from inside.
I shook my head. Why would she leave her door unlocked? I groaned walking in and locking it behind me.
I stood by the door with my bag held tightly in my hands. Normally I would have something to fidget with, but I didnât want to set my bag down.
âHey,â she said walking out of what I assumed was her bathroom.
Her dark blue dress crossed at the top near her neck and ran down to her knees.
âWow, you look amazing,â I whispered.
âThank you, you look smashing yourself! Iâll only be a minute; I just need to find me shoes and grab my bag.â
I nodded. âTake your time.â I looked around her tiny apartment and noticed that things were still in boxes.
âAre you planning to move again?â I asked.
âWhat?â she questioned poking her head out of the bedroom as she put an earring in her ear.
âYour stuff is in boxes,â I noted.
âOh, yeah I just have to finish unpacking,â she said as she disappeared again into her room.
âOh,â I muttered.
âOkay, ready,â she said walking out of her room and turning off the light behind her.
She had a bag slung over her shoulder.
âHere, let me take that for you,â I said taking her bag and putting it over my own shoulder.
âThank you, letâs go.â
I followed her out the door, and she made sure to lock the door that time.
Once we were safely on the road, I turned my attention to her.
âWhy do you live in that apartment?â I asked.
âWhat?â
âI donât mean to be too blunt, but the company pays you well, doesnât it?â
âOf course, it does,â she replied.
âSo, why donât you go get a better place to live?â
âBecause this way I can save some money, so when I do go get a better place, I have a backup. Besides, that place isnât bad. Just has a lot of added character.â She winked.
âI guess.â I sighed. âSo you never told me who she works for.â
âOh, um Tyler Foley.â
âTyler Foley the app designer?â
She shrugged. âI guess thatâs who he is. I know heâs quite wealthy.â
âWhat does your neighbor do for him?â
âPersonal assistant.â
I nodded.
