“You said that?” Lucy stared at me like an alien life form.

“I was being honest,” I replied.

“Nathan, honesty isn’t one of your most endearing features,” said Ben.

“Well, I didn’t want to lead him on. Besides, he’s spoilt. Not in a spoilt brat way, but in a way where he can have anything he wants whenever he wants. What if I’m just his latest fad?”

“Nathan’s right. He’s had his fun in New York with Cameron. He should go and find a rich man in Barcelona. Or maybe San Francisco.”

Lucy hit him with her chopsticks. “Romance is lost on both of you,” she said. She rested her finger on her chin. “This is about Elliot, isn’t it?”

“How did we get onto the subject of Elliot?” I asked. They both stared at me. “Elliot is ancient history. Seriously, he is.”

“But you still haven’t let him go.”

“I’m not going to live your fairy-tale romance.”

“See, this is what he does all the time,” claimed Ben. “He changes the subject when we talk about Elliot.”

“Nate, darling, you’ve been single for a year and a half,” said Lucy. “You have to move on.”

I sighed.

“You have a man who is the fantasy of most single women—rich, handsome, lovable.”

I could feel my eyes tear up.

“Spoil yourself. Get lost in his world. See where he takes you. If he’s not your final destiny, his love might prepare you for the man who is.”

Ben handed me his napkin.

I wiped my cheeks. A lion roared. I picked up my phone and through blurred eyes read the text.

“You look lost,” said Ben. “Who’s the message from?”

“It’s Cam’s butler and his aunt,” I replied. “They’re in Sydney!”
