Chapter Five

Two days later the gang of friends was ready for their second excursion of the cruise, but Bray’s first, to Willemstad, Curaçao. Bray was with Kris, Jan, Cath, and Lucy, already at a meetup point on deck, waiting for the others.

Bray had knocked on Faith’s door and asked if she wanted to walk up together, but she was running late, as she always did. It reminded Bray of all the nights out they’d shared together, all the dinners, concerts, shows they were late for because Faith took so long to get ready. She smiled at the memory.

Bray leaned on the railing of the ship, closing her eyes and inhaling the sea air. Even though she hadn’t been keen to come on this holiday, the sea air, the warm weather, and the thawing of her relationship with Faith were making it all worthwhile.

The past few days at sea, Bray had felt privileged to be of use to Faith. She had so much to make up for, and just to be around Faith again felt so good. She made sure Faith recovered from her stomach bug, brought her food that might tempt her appetite, and anything else she might need. Thankfully Faith had recovered enough to come on their excursion today.

Thomas was patiently waiting for all the stragglers, including another five women who were joining their party today. Thomas had recruited them to make sure none of the LGBTQ guests were left on their own.

Bray saw Thomas glancing anxiously between his iPad and around the deck. She texted Faith, You better get your behind in gear. Thomas is looking really worried.

Within a few seconds Faith texted back, Five minutes maximum.

Bray chuckled to herself and replied, So by five minutes maximum you mean thirty?

Once again Bray was transported back to happier days. She’d be ready and waiting patiently to start their night out, and Faith would text, Five minutes maximum, but Faith’s five minutes always took around thirty in reality. It was amazing how easily her rapport with Faith came back.

She felt a presence by her side. It was Karen, and she didn’t look too happy.

“Mornin’, Karen.”

Karen let out a breath. “Good morning, Braydon. I don’t know what it is about you, but Faith just won’t move on.”

“What do you mean?” Bray asked.

“I mean that I had a talk with Faith last night, and she’s not ready for another relationship. I don’t think she’ll ever find someone to love or make a new life with.”

Faith had mentioned she was going to have a chat with Karen and tell her she wasn’t into her in that way. Karen must have visited Faith last night.

“What are you trying to say, mate?”

“I’m saying you either have to put up or shut up,” Karen said.

Bray was lost. “I don’t understand.”

Karen turned and looked her dead in the eye. “Faith deserves happiness. She’s a beautiful person. She can’t or won’t move on, so you either have to be straight and encourage her to move on or tell her how much you still love her, and make her forgive you, and make her happy.
