David Stone’s telling of the story contained several details that could easily be verified. Unfortunately for him, none of them checked out. The surveillance footage from the A & W showed no indication that Stone had been there on April 16. Likewise, the footage from Mingles Bar. Stone had lied to the police. The following day, the GMC Yukon was found at a truck stop in Listen, Idaho, about 35 miles from Moscow. The keys were in the ignition and Rachael’s purse was on the passenger seat, in clear view of anyone passing by. It was almost as though someone wanted the vehicle to be stolen.
