FORTY-FIVE
I didnât think I was going to make it back in time to witness the birth of my daughter as I rode the red-eye flight back to New York. When I arrived at the hospital the nurses rushed me into the delivery room. I was thrilled I made it on time. I didnât want to miss this moment. I had to be there.
This was my first child. Having a daughter was exactly what I wanted. After all the pushing, yelling, and screaming, Tiffany entered the world. Tiffany Nicole Tremble was born in New York City at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. She weighed seven pounds and eight ounces. Jasmine was in labor for fourteen long, intense hours.
When I laid eyes on her, I cried. I was proud and happy to be a father. I held my little angel in my arms. She was the perfect gift from Heaven. Her golden brown skin was so pure and smooth. She was innocent and untainted, a bundle of love. I felt joy and happiness. I smiled and kissed my baby girl. She was my daughter.
After a few days in the hospital, we brought our baby girl home. Jasmine created a nursery for Tiffany next to our bedroom. Jasmine had moved in permanently. We lived together. Living as husband and wife.
Everything was ready for my daughterâs arrival. Her room was painted in a soft pink pastel color. White cloud puffs were painted on the ceilings, with dark angel babies sitting on the clouds. Jasmine filled the closet with baby clothes. Nothing was too good for our daughter. The room was filled with stuffed animals, toys, bottles, and diapers. Everything needed for a baby, we had.
The dresser, crib, and diaper-changing station were specially designed by furniture designer Tres Mark. He designed many specialty items for celebrities and their children.
Each piece of furniture had Tiffanyâs initials engraved on them. The knobs on the dresser were solid brass. The handcrafted crib had a specially designed bed with cashmere throws and pillows. We were ready. Prepared for Tiffany.
Having a baby in the house changed me. I was lighter, happier, and more patient. Nothing seemed pressing or important.
Music was my life, but having a hit song on the radio didnât matter as much to me as my little girl Tiffany did. I found joy and peace in the small things. Working hard meant something new to me. I worked to create a legacy for my daughter. I wanted her to never have to worry about anything. Thatâs what mattered to me.
Time seemed to pass faster having a child. But six months after Tiffany came home there was something else important I needed to take care of.
