Tristan

It was never a meaningless fling for me. From the first moment, I knew I wanted more than sex with her. What we have might be short, but it was never meaningless.

“I shouldn’t have said what I did at the party,” I continue, my eyes on her face. “I just...I didn’t know how you felt about us, and I assumed it didn’t matter to you that I was leaving because I…Because this means nothing to you.”

She looks at me like I’m insane. “How could you think that?” She crosses her arms around her chest. “It doesn’t matter. You’re still leaving. We’re never going to see each other again.”

I’m desperate enough to start making suggestions. Weekends in New York. Long distance...I even consider impossible things like moving my entire company.

As my mind continues to race, Cora sighs. “You know what?” she says, coming toward me and placing both hands on my arms. “Stop…stop trying to find a solution that’s not there.”

“There’s always a solution.”

“No, there isn’t.” She meets my gaze, and I can see the soft wetness in her eyes, the slight trembling of her lips, the sadness and vulnerability she’s no longer hiding from me. “Tristan, we should make the most of the time we have left.”

Without pausing to think, I cover her mouth with mine. She moans at the contact and my heart swells in my chest. My fingers twine in her hair and my senses fill with her taste and the warm softness of her body against mine. Arousal flares inside me, and for the moment, I forget everything but how much I want her.

I pull her closer to me, tasting her sweet warmth. Her breasts press into my chest, and when she moves against me, her thighs rub against my straining arousal.

God, I want her so much.

Someone across the street shouts for us to get a room. I ignore them, kissing Cora until we’re both breathless and panting.

When I finally release her, I keep her body pressed close to mine. “Are you going to invite me up or are we going to give your neighbors a show?”

She chuckles and her arms tighten around me. “I don’t want to let you go long enough to climb up those stairs.”

“I know what you mean.” I nibble on her lips, and she makes a soft sound, like a sigh, then grabs my hand and pulls me toward the gate. Just then, it starts to rain, and we’re drenched and laughing before we reach the top of the steps. Inside the apartment, we go straight to Cora’s room, and I shut the door behind me, then meet her in the middle of the room, where she’s standing in her wet dress, waiting for me.

I draw my fingers over the front of her dress, over the peaks and valleys of her incredible body. “This country has been amazing, but you’re by far the best thing about it.”

She looks dubious. “Michelangelo would beg to differ.”

“Fuck Michelangelo.”

I watch her giggle, mesmerized by how perfect she is.
