Chapter 7

Healing

I was dizzy and confused. All I knew was two males, one I thought was the boss the other Allen, were half carrying me between them. I tried to put one foot ahead of the other even though I wasn’t really sure why I cared enough to do so.

“Is she alright?” A female voice asked with concern.

“She has low blood sugar. We’re trying to get her to where she can have food and a drink.” The boss’s voice answered with friendliness and just the right touch of authority and concern.

“Who is she?” A man asked.

“She’s his wife.” The boss said and I was certain he pointed to Allen. That stopped all the questions because no one wanted to come between a man and his wife or delay the treatment of a sick person. This guy seemed to know just what to say to alleviate anyone’s concerns.

The people they passed next must have already witnessed the others questioning these two men half carrying an obviously ill woman and they cleared a path because we didn’t slow down or deviate from a straight path. I wanted to scream at these people and ask them why they couldn’t see something was terribly wrong. Would I have questioned this suave male who had all the answers? Maybe, maybe not but I couldn’t blame these people at least they’d tried. His answers could easily have been the truth and then they would have delayed the treatment I looked like I desperately needed. We only walked a little more, Boss had parked on the back end of the market in a dilapidated parking lot full of holes that had caused me many slips and trips.

Since I couldn’t see maybe it had just been a field and not a parking lot at all. All I knew was my toes were sore because I had stubbed them and my ankle had been wrenched more than once. My muscles were relaxed to the point it was hard to move them and I was nauseous. Denying I was befuddled served no purpose and I just wanted to lay down and sleep for a hundred years but I feared I might not wake up. That just about summed up my condition and my situation, it was grim. Boss was with me and I neither liked nor trusted the male. Allen I liked and trusted, to a point but I honestly couldn’t say what his choice would be if it came down to his life or mine.

The hint of a scent hit my nose and I perked up. It was delightful, outdoorsy, full, and vibrant. An inner voice howled the word mate! Making no sense of what was going on, not even in my mind, I just let the voice inside my head with me take over. It growled and sniffed wanting a better smell of the delicious aroma. The scent strengthened as we closed in on what I assumed was our destination based on what the two males discussed. We came to a stop and they balanced me between them as we stood there waiting for my people.
