6. Milkshakes, Baby
Michelle's still sleeping all curled on her side when I get back to the room. Tangled in the sheets, she's got âem draped around her legs so I can see the best parts of her, but only a little. A twisted rope of white cotton covers her nipples, her navel, and that sweet spot where her legs meet her body, along with the top of her ass.
âDamn shame,â I murmur. Nothing in the world should ever cover up that ass.
When Michelle and I first started dating, her fashion sense was all about baggy jeans and long T-shirts. Still, those curvy hips and that generous butt couldn't be hidden. I don't deny I'm happier now that she's updated her style to clothes that still cover the goods, but have more stretch.
God bless whoever invented leggings, thatâs all I can say.
Right now, though? Right now she's wearing nothing and looking a thousand-million-kazillion times more beautiful than one of those nude sketches from her art classes. That's the girl I want to get old with, right there.
Itâs true. I would spend forever with her, if sheâs crazy enough to have me.
I slide the tray of food I'm holding onto the glass coffee table and then kick off my clothes. I kiss carefully at her shoulder.
As much as I like watching my baby sleep, I worry about her waking up while I'm staring. Michelle and I came together because we both understood what it was like to have trouble letting our guard down. Last thing I'd ever want to do is make her afraid by creeping up on her while she slept.
âBaby.â
I kiss her cheek. Her arm. Lifting her hand, I kiss the back of that, too, and I'm wondering what else I might need to try when she sucks in a breath and opens her eyes.
âHey.â She's blinking and rubbing the gritty stuff from her lashes.
âHey, yourself.â Can't help myself from swiping at the skin on her arm. It's like she bathes in lotion and baby placentas, her skin is so smooth.
âYou okay?â There's more to that question than meets the eye. I can tell from the anxiousness on her face she's still bothered by our conversation from last night.
âSure. Brought breakfast. How are you?â
Looks like bringing breakfast earned me a smile. âAww, thanks. I'm okay. I'm justâ¦worried.â
âWe'll work it out, baby. Some way or another.â
I smooth my hand across her cheek and through her sleep-disheveled hair. When her lips part like maybe she's about to argue, I kiss her. And when she sucks in a breath and pulls away with my name on her lips, I kiss her again.
âNo worries right now. No more sad conversation. Please, baby. Itâs Valentineâs Day. Right now I just want to be with you. We'll come up with a solution. We've got to. You're my one and only constant, and the world doesn't make sense if you're not next to me when I wake up in the morning.â
She looks like she's about to argue again, but then her face changes.
