27 MY VISION WAS SURROUNDED BY A SEA OF OTHER BLUE BOXES VYING FOR MY ATTENTION. I IGNORED THEM ALL AS I FOCUSED ON THE ORANGE-BORDERED BLUE BOX HOVERING DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF ME
[Eye of the Crijik: Level 1.]
â[Eye of the Crijik],â I whispered the skillâs name.
I grew still, worry crossing my features as I remembered we could be being watched.
âNo, nobody can hear us. Weâve had enough time for all the defenses to be set up.â Gerial confirmed as he saw my expression. â[Eye of the Crijik]. Is that really what itâs called? Iâve never heard of a Marked one getting that skill.â
âReally?â
âYeah, [Body of the Crijik] is the most common one. It changes a random section of the Marked oneâs body intoâ¦you know what, itâs better that I donât say.â
Is this why Amandaâs books have Marked ones with otherworldly body parts? I shivered. I remember her checking my arms to see if they were tentacles in disguise.
I was very glad that I didnât get that skill.
âThis is the part where I try to figure out what my skills do.â I blinked in surprise. âBut I think itâs been active the whole time. Wait, is this something I can turn off?â
âI donât see why you canât, I can do it with my invisibility.â
With a thoughtful hum I closed my eyes, focusing on the skill within the System. With a flicker of willpower, I turned it off.
The world grew quieter, though was no less silent.
Strange, I thought.
I opened my eyes, and my stomach churned as I spotted a world that was a lot less vibrant than normal. There wasnât a single change that contributed to that feeling. It was like someone had shifted the delivery of the entire vision into my eyes, removing a filter and several minor elements from the background.
Given my experience, it didnât take me long to figure out what was missing. The trees were a little paler, and the sounds around me had softened, no longer as pronounced as they were before, even if they hadnât changed in number or volume.
Gerial had also changed, though he was no less imposing. Usually, there was a flicker of light around him that gave off an imperial aura, unapproachable and deadly. That aura was still there. I could feel it. But it wasnât visible.
âConnection, lightning, sound, and life.â I connected the dots instantly. âI canât see the other mana types anymore. I can hear them. Faintly. But not see them.â
âWhat? Really?â Gerial asked. âWait, let me try something.â
Gerial disappeared before I could ask him what he was about to do.
âCan you see me?â His voice came out of thin air.
I peered at the spot where heâd been sitting with intense focus. No, I couldnât see him. Not like Iâd been able to before.
However, I could still sense his presence through my Mark.
âSort of, but not with my eyes,â I said. âJust through our Marks.â
âOkay, okay, that explains a lot.â
Gerial reappeared beside me, a grin on his face. âI can finally rest easy knowing that not everyone can break the veil of my skill.
