Tension (gauge)

8.5 sts to 10cm (4 in) over pattern.

Special abbreviation

k5B Knit 5th st below by slipping next st off lefthand needle and drop st 4 rows down, leaving 4 ladder strands across. Working from front to back, insert point of LH needle through live st on 5th row down and under strands. Using RH needle knit st normally catching ladder strands at same time.

Using 12mm (US 17) needles and B, cast on 35 sts.

Purl 1 row.

Work in pattern as foll:

Row 1 (RS): Knit.

Row 2: Purl.

Row 3 to 4: Rep Rows 1 to 2.

Row 5: K3, *k5B, k3, rep from * to end of row.

Row 6: Purl.

Row 7 to 10: Rep Rows 1 to 2 twice.

Row 11: K1, *k5B, k3, rep from * to last 2 sts, k5B, K1.

Row 12: Purl.

Repeat last 12 rows until work meas 50cm (19¾ in) from cast-on edge, ending with RS facing for next row.

Cast off (bind off).
