Salutations Prince Siden,
If you are reading this, then Caption Vidia has found you enroute to Whitecroft and received our gift as well. I hope it has met with your approval. If so, please consider wearing it for the ceremony as a show of unity between our Kingdoms.
As agreed before, we have sent a caravan of supplies. Caption Vidia has been instructed to leave four of the wagons with you for your men. One will be of weapons and armor, the other three will be food supplies for your men as Iâm certain, they need such.
We look forward to meeting you. May your travels be uneventful and swift.
Sincerely King Ziriah
âHow many wagons were sent?â Siden asked, stunned by the Kingâs for-thought.
âForty-eight in all. The ones mentioned before will be arriving within the hour.â Siden turned to Farland, eyes wide with shock.
âIâll send word to the cooks and have guards posted around them so no one gets any ideas during the night,â Farland interjected, turning to the door.
It took Siden a moment to wrap his head around the magnitude of it all. âIâm sure you and your men are tired, Caption Vidia. Please join us for the night. Iâve already given my men the order to make room and help break up your camp and move it. I donât want to take the chance of something happening to those supplies or your men before they reach my Father and Ravenside.â
âWe would be honored. Thank you, your highness.â Caption Vidia said with a bow. âIf you have no further need of me, Iâll return to my men and make ready for the move.â
Distracted, Siden nodded. âOf course, Caption.â
He was still standing there stunned when Farland returned.
âWell, that was timing! Looks like the Fates have decided to smile on us this day.â The words hung in the air a moment before Siden blinked and turned to look at his old friend. âIt would seem so.â
Farland scowled. âYou donât sound all that pleased.â
Sighing, Siden rubbed at the back of his neck shaking his head. âDonât get me wrong. Iâm overjoyed by the news. Our men need this. We need this! Butâ¦.â
âBut what?â Farland snapped. âIs there nothing to satisfy you?â His fist collided with the makeshift table making it rattle violently on the haphazard legs.
Siden watched him for a long moment, before he turned away. âItâs hard to find anything that can make me truly happy when we still have a war to win.â The words were soft but full of heartache and longing. âIâm truly grateful that our men will have food and armor, but I still canât help wondering what the cost will truly be in the end.â
Behind him, Farland sighed. âNo one can know that boy.â He confessed wearily. âAll we can do is our best. You canât let your people see you doubting. Give them hope, even if you fear there is none.â
Knowing his friend was right, Siden squared his shoulders, nodded, and turned as if he were ready to face the enemy.
