Savannah glanced around the massive yard on the sound with a mild sense of panic.
So. Many. People.
And they were all related to Cash.
Or somehow related to or married to people who were related to Cash.
Either way, there were a lot of them and she suddenly felt a little out of her element and wondered if anyone would notice if she justâ¦left.
The large hand resting on her lower back gave her the answer.
âOkay, just remember that this is a casual get-together with Cashâs family,â Jackson murmured behind her.
âSure, with a wedding thrown in for good measure.â
âEither way, itâs a party and youâre going to have fun. Trust me.â Taking her by the hand, he led her across the large deck and down the stairs to the yard. Cash was already seated in a place of honor and there were chairs lining the lawn for all the guests to watch the ceremony. âIâll take you right over to Cash so you can sit with him while I run back to the house and get ready with my brothers. Are you going to be okay?â
âIâll be fine. Donât worry about me. This is a big day for your brother and thatâs where your attention needs to be.â They were approaching Cash, and honestly, she was relieved. Things had been a little strained between her and Jacksonâeven after a rather steamy quickie at his place after their walk on the pier the other night. The truth was that this was all just a sexy distraction that was going to come to an end sooner rather than later. She wasnât going to fight it, but she wasnât going to embrace it either. Jackson thought he had feelings for her, but eventually heâd see this was just a casual thing too.
She was just brave enough to say it first.
Jackson kissed her soundly before turning and jogging back up to the house. Savannah took her seat next to Cash and looked around curiously. People were setting up tables and hanging lanterns around the massive garden.
âThis was my grandfatherâs house,â Cash said from beside her. âActually, it was my great-grandfatherâs house. He built itâor, part of itâwhen the family founded the area.â
She nodded.
âBut my grandfather, Ezekiel, he was the one that really expanded it all and he had an incredible green thumb. Everything you see in this yard, he planted.â
She nodded again as she continued to look around.
âWhen he died, he left the house to Susannah, much to Georgiaâs outrage. But the old guy knew Susannah wanted to turn the place into a B&B and he was more than okay with that. As you can see, sheâs comfortable doing big events here. Her daughter Mallory got married here. Actually, she shared her wedding day with Susannah and her husband Colton.â
Smiling, she distractedly replied, âThatâs nice.â
âThen, last Christmas, Austin and Mia got married here. Seems kind of fitting for Garrett and Emma to follow in their footsteps.â
âMm-hmm.â The more she looked around, the more she wondered what kind of crew of people it must take to care for a yard this size.
