CHAPTER 7

DAHLIA

“I wish I used Facebook more. I’ll make reels with the magical creatures who have paid us a visit. I bet it’ll drum up more business for the plantation.” Genevieve was recording us in the caterer’s kitchen as we made cookies.

Every year Phi and her daughter Rachel selected several cookie recipes that we made in addition to the traditional sugar. We were currently making some chocolate crinkle cookies. Rolling the dough in my hands, I shot Viv a smile. “We’ve done as well as we have because of the magical events we’ve done. They’ve made up more than half of our bookings without any advertising directed at that market. We should make sure we are stocked up on glasses and candles before we post your reels because I have a feeling we will be bombarded.”

Dea pointed to the tables on the patio where sugar cookies were being decorated with frosting, sprinkles, and candy. Our family members were joined by the pixies, gnomes, brownies, dwarves, and nymphs. “I have no doubt about that. Look at how fast everyone gathered when the pixies told them about our invitation to come to make treats. What exactly does Kaitlyn think this is going to accomplish? Did she explain that, Dre?”

Dreya took the measuring cup from Cami and dumped the molasses into the mixer for the next batch of gingerbread cookies as she tilted her head from side to side. “She agreed that it was suspicious that none of them remember who told them about Willowberry and thought perhaps being together might trigger whatever spell was used.”

I shook my head as I tried to make sense of Kaitlyn’s reasoning. “Should we be preparing for an attack? Or did she say more? I don’t like the idea of activating some spell when our entire family is here.”

Dreya rolled her eyes. “As if I would take that chance. Kaitlyn was positive that the wards would toss them off the property should they become violent in any way. She thought that a reveal spell might make them remember who is behind these bizarre visits. We can cast it on them now that they are together.”

Scanning the people at the tables, I considered what we wanted to discover. “We need to focus our intent on revealing who sent the paranormals only. The last thing I want to learn is that some of our family are into some serious kink.”

Dea sputtered as she tried not to laugh. “Oh, my gods, Lia. That’s awful. But a good point.”

“Imagine the gnomes, brownies, dwarves, and nymphs remembering who mentioned the parties at Willowberry and suggested that they pay us a visit,” Dre suggested.

Nods all around, we paused what we were doing and gathered at the island automatically. Hence, we were close to one another. Genevieve held her camera on her gizmo and recorded what we were doing. “Okay, now we’re talking. You six doing magic together is going to be some great footage.”

Dani glared at her daughter. “That is not helping. Intent is the key to casting spells.
