Well, and wasn’t this fun watching everyone scramble about chasing their own tails.

The shots fired at Brunelli and his wife had been perfectly orchestrated. One had hit the brickwork close to the Italian’s head as the couple stepped out of the restaurant where they had eaten dinner. The second and third shot had also gone deliberately wide of hitting the couple.

Because those shots had been designed to scare and distract, not kill.

I seriously don’t need the shit that being involved in the elimination of the capo dei capi of the Italian Mafia would rain down on me.

Apparently, the bodyguards had instantly formed an impenetrable barrier about the couple before ensuring they were safely inside the waiting bulletproof SUV. Only the best for Leon Brunelli and his lovely wife.

And there had been one of those handsome Irish bastards as head of this evening’s security. Liam, the youngest of the Price brothers, but also the deadliest with a rifle.

All the people around the target had been investigated. It paid never to leave anything to chance, and Liam Price had once been a sharpshooter for the Irish Mob.

His presence at Leon Brunelli’s side meant that the other brother, Kieran, and half a dozen other bodyguards were still on the estate.

That would change once Liam reported the shooting to his brother.

It would then be time to go and do what I do best.

People were just so predictable.

It was really quite boring how predictable they were.
