Chapter 14

Sloan

It happened so fast, just like always.

There was no warning. No red flags to watch for. No signs it was about to go down. It was fine, then it wasn’t, and all I could do was react in the best way possible to save myself.

It had been a normal night for me, dancing and earning tips, finding the person in the audience to connect with so I could put on the best possible performance, then dancing my heart out for the most money possible.

Sure, it was a passion, too, but when Kain wasn’t in the audience, it just wasn’t the same. I had lost the same sense of passion I felt for the job when he wasn’t around. I wanted him to be there. I wanted him to be in the group watching and admiring me.

Hell, I wanted him to be the only one out there watching and admiring.

But then, my night took the turn for the worse. It reminded me of the night when I was in the alley and the man had grabbed me from behind, groping me and threatening to do all kinds of horrible things to me if I didn’t comply with hid demands.

This was a similar incident, except I was in the middle of the club, and this man didn’t have a knife. At least, not that I knew of. I was walking through the crowd, looking for someone to rub up against – something who might want a lap dance – when suddenly I was grabbed by a guy who forced me down onto his lap.

I could feel how hard his dick was through his jeans, and immediately, I was disgusted. I scrambled to my feet but he was on his in an instant, grabbing me again. I clawed at his arms and kneed him in the balls before turning to walk away.

The bouncers responded fast, and they were there in a heartbeat to yank the guy away from me and shove him out the door. I knew I was safe in the club, but that didn’t stop me from shaking when the incident was over.

My boss came over as soon as he heard what had happened.

“Are you alright?” he asked, concern in his voice.

“I’m fine, just an asshole who thought he could get away with making a move,” I told him.

“Well the joke was on him, he’s been banned,” my boss said.

“Thanks,” I replied.

“Take the rest of the night off. I’m sure that was scary, and I don’t want you to feel like you have to still be up there after something like that went down,” he told me.

“Are you sure?” I asked. I really was okay, but if I could get out of working for the rest of the night, I was more than happy to do so. It was hard to get back in the mood after something like that happened. It wasn’t that I was ashamed of myself, but I was sad so many people thought we were objects.

Though
