Chapter 8

The ceremony was beautiful. It was held outdoors and the very famous wedding planner had outdone herself. Begonias, tulips and baby’s breath vied for supremacy and covered the arch and wooden beams above their heads. The location had taken a lot of money changing hands to procure as it was highly in demand. It was the summer wedding of the year and guests were from high society. Moya even glimpsed several of the wives she'd been friends with before the accident and who she was beginning to remember. She waved at Leesa who sat with her husband Bradley and was wearing a stunning pearl grey designer dress. She'd also seen Monique and Lorenzo and several others. There were also singers and actors as well as a few politicians here and there.

She turned to look at Jared who was wearing a dark blue tux and looked so achingly handsome. He turned to look at her and took her hand in his. “You are by far the most beautiful woman here,” he whispered. She was wearing an impossibly light gown the color of fresh green apples. It was a Romano original and had thin straps that barely held up the bodice and a flared skirt with lots of pleats. A platinum necklace was around her neck with a diamond pendant suspended and nestling in her cleavage. A risqué hat was perched on her curls and diamonds glittered at her lobes.

“You haven't seen the bride yet,” she whispered back.

“The poor thing doesn’t stand a chance against you,” he said with a grin. They'd grown closer over the past few months and she'd told him that she was ready to get married and have his children.

“I don’t want anything like this,” she told him, indicating the sumptuous and pricey wedding.

“Are you sure?”

“Positive. A small intimate ceremony with only friends and I don’t mean four hundred of our closest friends.”

His green eyes met hers. “I'm supposed to be the one proposing.”

“But you're taking your sweet time,” she teased.

“I just want you to be sure.”

“I am sure.”

“In that case: Moya Deidre Givens will you marry me?” he asked her softly.

“You're proposing to me now?” she asked, staring at him.

“What better time?” he asked her in amusement.

“You're impossible!” she said with a soft laugh. “Yes.”

He lifted her hand to his lips and kissed it softly. “Thank you.”

Christian stared at the crowd from his position beneath the arch. He had a thing for beauty and he admired the details that had gone into the decorations. The smell of flowers was everywhere and he wished it was something that he wanted to do. It would have been perfect. His eyes were drawn to the couple seated in the third row. His best friend Moya and the man who without a doubt was in love with her. His eyes lingered as he admired the way she looked and felt a yearning at the intimacy they portrayed. Love! Something that was strange to him and that would never be his shone brightly from them.
