Harmony from Dot and Dash

The other relationship between rhythm and harmony is derived from the Dot Dash system and, as in the system itself, is founded on a very simple concept that leads to enormous potential complexity.

The basic idea is as follows:

presents a semitone

represents a tone

Therefore:

Twelve dots represent a chromatic scale:

Six dashes represent a whole tone scale:

Four figures in 3 represent the diminished scale.

Already by the diminished scale greater levels of complexity begin to appear. Unlike with the whole tone or chromatic scales, changing the start point of the diminished scale produces different harmonic results. Starting with a dot on C produces:
