22 Not Expected

Cora’s body fits easily next to mine, only confirming that I belong with her. I can tell she’s nervous by the slight tremble in her frame. Since she’s been here, she’s put on a few pounds, and they’ve only made her more desirable. Before, she was skin and bones, and now she’s got curves in all the right places.

When she let herself go and came for me, it was like watching fireworks, only way fucking better, with the added experience of having her sweet taste on my tongue.

We make it to Tobias’s office door, and since it’s open, I walk us in. He’s standing in front of his desk with his back to the door and us, his hands on his hips.

“Close the door,” he says, making Cora jolt next to me.

“Go sit down. I’ll get the door,” I say in her ear and move to do his bidding. I’m sensing some jealousy.

Wanting Cora to know I’m not going to abandon her and that, whatever this is, we’re in it together, I go over to where she’s seated on the couch and sit next to her. Inhaling the chlorine scent mixed with her usual vanilla, I commit it to memory, wanting to remember the first time I made her come for me. The first of, hopefully, many more to come.

Tobias finally turns toward us and takes his usual seat across from the couch, steepling his hands in front of him. “You’re both adults. You’re more than capable of making decisions about sex and who you want to engage in those activities with. Next time, do it behind closed doors, where no one can stumble upon you at any moment. Please understand that such public displays could have negative outcomes for others.” He looks at me the entire time, and I know he’s not happy, but as he said, we’re both adults. What can he do?

“Cora, you can go. I’d like to have a word with Alex alone, please,” he says, his voice going soft.

Oh, fuck.

She looks at me but stays put.

I give her a reassuring squeeze. “It’s okay. I’m not afraid of the big bad wolf.” I give her a wink and help her stand.

She slowly walks to the door, glancing back at me when she reaches it. I nod again and let a bright smile cross my face. With her hand on the handle, she gives me an encouraging nod and opens the door, closing it behind her.

I look from the door back to Tobias and wait for him to speak. He takes in a deep breath and lets it out slowly. Here we go.

“I hope that whatever this is between the two of you, you’re ready and able to handle her with care. She’s fragile,” he warns me.

“She’s not as fragile as you think. But since I know you’re looking out for us, I’ll tell you—I am. I’d never do something I think would hurt her.” Holding his eyes, I wait him out as we stubbornly stare each other down.
